Our story
The Genesis of Vonhera
In 2018, at the funeral of Mrs. Florence Emelike, a retired primary teacher, our founder, Mrs. Rosemary C. Asiegbu, witnessed the profound despair of grieving widows in her community. Mrs. Emelike had been a pillar of support for these women, and her passing left a devastating void. Deeply moved by this firsthand encounter with abject poverty and hopelessness, Mrs. Asiegbu made a solemn promise to fill that gap. This singular moment ignited the inspiration to establish a more organized outreach, and thus, the Vonhera Foundation was born.
Our Mission
Our MISSION is to educate and enlighten widows in managing basic health issues and the provision of agricultural inputs to achieve sustenance.

Our story
Our Journey and Evolving Strategy:
Starting with limited resources, the Vonhera Foundation began by providing essential aid such as cash, food, and clothing to widows across 18 communities in Umuahia. However, as the Nigerian economy grew harsher and the challenges faced by rural widows intensified – marked by increasing malnutrition among children, rising school dropout rates, and a tragic increase in orphans – we recognized the need for a more sustainable approach. This led to a strategic shift: engaging expert resource persons in Theology, Health, and Agriculture. We now empower widows with vital knowledge and practical skills, alongside supplying crucial farm inputs like fertilizers, hybrid cassava stems, coconuts, and maize. By focusing on hybrid inputs and homestead farming, we maximize the impact on the small land parcels available to these women.
What we do?
We are restoring hope, one widow at a time.

Widow Empowerment
At Vonhera Foundation, we implement a multi-faceted approach to empower widows for sustainable self-reliance. Our programs are designed to address immediate needs while fostering long-term independence

Community Engagement
We actively engage with widows across 18 communities in Umuahia, understanding their unique challenges and tailoring our support to their specific needs. Our outreach efforts foster a sense of community and mutual support among the women we serve

Agricultural Empowerment
Recognizing the critical role of agriculture in rural livelihoods, we equip widows with the knowledge and tools to cultivate their own food and generate income. Our agricultural programs includes: Expert Training and provision of farm inputs

From Aid to Sustenance
Our strategy has evolved from providing temporary relief to building lasting self-sufficiency. By investing in education and sustainable agricultural practices, we enable widows to not only feed themselves and their children but also to generate surplus produce for sale, significantly improving their economic standing and overall quality of life

What our beneficiaries say
Despite our limited resources, we are incredibly proud of the positive impacts we are making. The testimonies we receive speak volumes: widows are now able to feed their families better and generate income by selling their produce, enabling them to meet other essential needs and break the cycle of poverty.
